Position Summary:

  • Performs IT functions such as design, analysis, evaluation, testing, debugging and implementation of applications programs supporting company business processes and operations. Analyzes, installs, acquires, modifies and supports operating systems, database or utilities software. Plans, conducts and directs the analysis of business problems to be solved with automated systems. Analyzes, designs, acquires and implements projects for LAN and/or WAN systems. Plans, designs, acquires and implements telecommunications voice/wire systems. At higher job levels, may contribute to the development, testing, evaluation or design of system or infrastructure architecture used throughout the IT solution set.

    May receive direction for more complex issues from IS Manager and/or Director of IS

 

Strategy & Planning

  • Assist in developing and tracking Project and Program Management.
  • Perform all work in compliance with company policy and within the guidelines of BFDF’s Quality
  • Analyze performance of Service Desk activities and documented resolutions, identify problem areas, and devise and deliver solutions to enhance quality of service and to prevent future problems.
  • Negotiate and administer vendor relations and agreements for investigation and purchase of systems, accessories, software, and peripherals.

 

Operational Management

  • Coordinate and/or perform hands-on fixes at the desktop, server, networking infrastructure and business systems levels including installing and upgrading software, installing hardware, implementing file and system backups, and configuring systems and applications.
  • Monitor and test fixes to ensure problems have been adequately resolved.
  • Access software updates, drivers, knowledge bases, and frequently asked questions resources on the Internet to aid in problem resolution.
  • Assume critical roles in Virtualization, Server Maintenance, SQL Database Management, Storage and Backups, Engineering Business Systems, Networking and Firewalls, Domain Administration, IS Security, Exchange, Updates and Patches, Budget and Inventory Management, Vendor Relations, Third Party Application and Internal Software (i.e. QW and PW)
  • Conduct research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in support of IT business systems and aid in procurement and development efforts of these technologies.
  • Assess need for any system reconfigurations (minor or significant) based on request trends and make recommendations.
  • Identify, recommend, develop, and implement end user training programs to increase computer literacy and self-sufficiency.
  • Oversee development and dissemination of help sheets, usage guides, and FAQ lists for end users.
  • Attend training seminars, conferences, and trade shows to broaden knowledge of current and future of IT issues and emerging technologies.
  • Manage the processing of incoming calls to the Service Desk via both telephone and e-mail to ensure courteous, timely, and effective resolution of end user issues.
  • Perform tasks as directed by the Director of Information Systems and/or the IT Manager.

 

Training and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in the field of computer science, information sciences, or related field and/or 5+ years equivalent work experience.

Skills:

  • Exceptional knowledge of computer hardware, including personal laptops, desktops, servers, and printers.
  • Deep-seated experience with desktop and server operating systems, including Microsoft Windows for Workstations and Servers, Linux, and Virtualization of these operating systems.
  • Experience with SQL, Networking, Exchange, Servers, Backups, and Domain administration.
  • Working knowledge of a range of diagnostic utilities
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Experience and understanding of Active Directory and user account controls and maintenance.
  • Experience and understanding of Exchange and mailbox controls and maintenance.
  • Strong documentation skills.
  • Strong background in creating, managing, and closing projects from start to finish. Utilizing resources and team members to accomplish assigned tasks and projects effectively and quickly.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Additional working hours as required.
  • Sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, power tools, and to handle other computer components.
  • Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as computers, servers and peripherals.
  • Some travel may be required.
