Position Summary:

  • This is a full-time position. This position is part of a team working on a variety of laboratory procedures involving the integration of software, chemistry, and instrumentation into a unified system.  Performs general lab duties, conducts experiments, collects and analyzes data and keeps an accurate record of all work done in the laboratory notebook. Requires excellent problem-solving skills. Work may involve development of new products, software or processes, verifications and validations and troubleshooting, all under the direction of a senior systems integration specialist or supervisor. Familiar with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices and procedures including PCR, RT-PCR real-time PCR, and use of fluorescence-based nucleic acid detection techniques. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Reports to a Systems Integration Manager.

 

Principal Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Moderate proficiency in at least one of the following, proficiency in more than one is desired:
    • Molecular biochemistry (PCR RT-PCR, etc.)
    • Other laboratory disciplines (general chemistry, sample preparation/manipulation)
  • Execution of verifications and validations related to systems or processes.
  • Execute experiments outlined in study protocols.
  • Makes detailed observations, analyzes data and interprets results.
  • Aids in preparation of protocols, technical reports, summaries, and quantitative analyses.
  • Maintains familiarity with current scientific literature.
  • Aids in development of presentations for both internal and external customers.
  • Contributes to project process within their scientific discipline.
  • Aids in development and revision of process WIDs, Batch Records and other documentation.
  • May be responsible for identifying patentable inventions.
  • Uses professional concepts in accordance with company objectives to solve complex problems in creative and effective ways.
  • Ensures laboratory notebooks for assigned projects/experiments are maintained in accordance with the BioFire Defense Employment Handbook.
  • Perform all work in compliance with company policy and within the guidelines of the BioFire Defense Quality System.

 

Training and Education:

  • May require an AS or BS in a scientific discipline or equivalent and demonstrated working knowledge of scientific principles.
  • 0-2 years of experience in the field or related area.

  • Proficient in standard lab practices and standard PCR methodologies
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office program suite
  • Documentation practices, organizational skills, and attention to detail
